Cheetahs

We are Y3 Cheetahs

My name is Dawn Davies and I teach in Year 3 Cheetah Class.  I qualified as a teacher in 2000 and began my teaching career in Manchester, before moving to Gutersloh to work for SCE in 2006.  I was fortunate enough to spend two years in The Falkland Islands, where I saw some amazing wildlife such as penguins and sea lions, caracara and orca, and ‘sadly’ got stranded on Ascension Island for three weeks due to volcanic ash!   I then came to Bruggen School two years ago and am enjoying being back in Germany once more.  I tell the children that we all have our strengths and weaknesses…my weakness is chocolate, but I am working on that!

We are very lucky to be supported in Year 3 by Mr McGivern, a teacher who has worked for SCE for many years and who takes some children for maths and phonic sessions in the mornings. Mrs Biggs also comes in on a Tuesday morning and supports some of us with our maths and English. We are very lucky to have such fabulous teachers helping us to learn.

Our LSA is Mrs Moran.  Mrs Moran is new to KS2 and is really looking forward to getting to know us all and being part of our learning journey until the end of the year.

This year we will be studying some very exciting topics:

  • New Beginnings deals with new starts which is particularly important to us as many of us move regularly and have to start new schools.
  • Animal or Human? We will be finding out about food groups and healthy balanced diets. We will be studying the human digestive system and how food is transported around the body.  Following this, we will investigate skeletons and look closely at bones, joints and muscles, comparing these with animal skeletons. We will finish our topic by discovering the effects of exercise.
  • Where in the world are we? Year 3 Geography focus is locating different countries in the world.  We are looking closely at maps and finding the longitude and latitude.  We will focus closely on one country in particular and study it closely. Our country is France, as many of us drive through France when we are going to catch the Ferry home.  We will study the different regions in France and how these differ due to their climate and physical features.
  • Remembrance Day - Mini Topic to last a week during the week beginning 11th November.  We will start this week with a visit to the Remembrance Memorial on Javelin Barracks to take part in the service.  This is an opportunity to think about this important time in our community.
  • Author Study - Enid Blyton.  We will be learning all about Enid Blyton and reading lots of her books, starting with 'The Magic Faraway Tree'.
  • RE- Our RE this half term is Christianity and Buddhism. After half term we will be looking Festivals, which will include Christmas, Divali and Advent.

After Christmas we will be starting some new topics - 'Watch This Space'...

Did you know?

A group of Cheetahs is called a coalition?  We found this out by researching on the internet when we were looking up information about Cheetahs.  What do you know about Cheetahs?

Cheetah Housekeeping

PE is on a Thursday and Friday.  PE kit should be brought into school at the beginning of the week and can be left on pegs until the end of the week. Jewellery should not be worn on PE days and long hair should be tied back.

We go to the school Library every Wednesday and children are encouraged to choose a book.  Library books should be in school each Wednesday so that books can be swapped.

It is a long time from breakfast until lunch, so at playtime children may have a healthy snack from home.  Please bring this with you and leave it in your lunch box or bag on your peg.

Homework is usually sent home on a Friday and should be brought back in by the following Wednesday.

Flytrap

Flytrap is our class mascot.  He is an African Tree Frog and sits quietly on his cushion all day long.  If we need help with anything, or a friend to listen to, he is there for us. He is extremely good at Maths and can do amazing things with numbers…you should see him add up three digits numbers on a number line!

We also have our class Cheetah, Dash, who will go home with our 'Star Of The Week'. The journal should be filled in and brought back to school on Monday to share with everyone.  Dash really loves going home with you and having fun adventures.
