Job Vacancies

UK-Based Teachers

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) hires most of its teaching staff directly from the United Kingdom. If you are interested in teaching at Brüggen School, please visit the Service Children's Education (SCE) website and keep a regular eye on the Current Vacancies section.

Supply Teachers

The MoD may hire suitably (UK) qualified and experienced teachers locally, to work on a 'supply teacher' basis, as the need arises. Please complete the SCE Application Form as soon as possible and hand / send it to the School Secretary, together with a current Curriculum Vitae (CV) and a brief covering letter. You can download an application form at the foot of this page.

Teaching and Administrative Assistants

Assistant posts are for the dependants of service personnel, or MoD civil servants, only. The posts are also term-time only, which suits busy parents.

If you might like to work at Brüggen School, we encourage you to volunteer first. Voluntary work may cover tasks such as hearing children read and supervising children on school trips. Volunteering allows you to find out whether you have a vocation for school work before you commit yourself fully.

Please apply for voluntary work as soon as possible in your tour, as the MoD vetting procedures can take some time, and you cannot start work until you are 'cleared'. Should you secure paid work in the school, if you are cleared, you should also be able to start work immediately. You can apply for cleared voluntary work by sending a brief letter to the Head Teacher, together with a CV, if you have one.

If you are recruited onto the staff as a paid employee later on, there may be opportunities for in-house and out-of-house training, and for you to study for National Vocational Qualifications, such as the NVQ in 'Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools'. Qualifications may help you to climb the MoD pay scales and secure fulfilling work on your return to the UK.

Requirements - All Staff Members

All members of staff have the following mandatory duties, in accordance with SCE / school policies and procedures:

  • To promote the health, safety and welfare of everyone at school.
  • To promote opportunities at school on an equal basis.
  • To safeguard the welfare of all the children who attend our school.

Because you will be working with children, you will need to apply for a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. SCE, or our School Secretary will provide you with the forms.
